According to Wikipedia, the definition of ‘hedonic adaptation’ is:

“…the observed tendency of humans to quickly return to a relatively stable level of happiness despite major positive or negative events or life changes.”

It is this tendency that explains why, not matter how badly we may desire an item such as, for instance, a new car, once we have it, it doesn’t take long until we are quite blasé about it and immediately start desiring the next item we believe will bring us happiness.

Today’s card from the Ask Your Guides Oracle is ‘Discontent.’ The reason for the discontent is that hedonic tendency to seek happiness from things. There simply isn’t anything on this planet that can bring a person lasting happiness and I think that most of you reading this would agree that happiness is an inside job (yes, that’s one cliché that holds true!).

As soon as we externalise happiness and put the expectation of it on anything (or anyone) outside ourselves, we set ourselves up for disappointment.

So what can we do to avoid this feeling of discontent? Our Muse guides suggest that the key to lasting happiness lies in expressing ourselves creatively. Our creative source is a well that never runs dry… and if it feels as if it has, we can always find a way of priming the pump.

Tomorrow, priming that creative pump is definitely our best bet for avoiding the kind of anxiety that can come creeping in with the Tarot Moon card. On the plus side, we will have greater than normal access to our imagination tomorrow, thanks to this influx of Piscean Moon card energy.

Instead of focusing on others bringing us happiness and getting, the suggestion from the Tarot is that we instead focus on giving and how to bring a smile to the face of a friend or a loved one.

The focus is very much on relating from the heart tomorrow, with the 2 and 10 of Cups. This doesn’t have to mean big gestures or lots of relationship drama. It can literally be as simple as giving someone a hug or looking a loved one in the eyes while you tell them you love them.
