Our Tarot Soul Coaching draw for the New Moon on Friday, 7 December, is the 8 of Cups. The associated Shem angels are Lekhabel and Vashiriah. We last got this card as our daily draw on 29 October, 2018. Today, during the optimistic New Moon in Sagittarius, this card highlights the opportunities more than any sense of restlessness and stuckness (though they may certainly be present). We are called to move to higher ground.
Waite for It
A man of dejected aspect is deserting the cups of his felicity, enterprise, undertaking or previous concern. Divinatory Meanings: The card speaks for itself on the surface, but other readings are entirely antithetical–giving joy, mildness, timidity, honour, modesty. In practice, it is usually found that the card shews the decline of a matter, or that a matter which has been thought to be important is really of slight consequence–either for good or evil. Reversed: Great joy, happiness, feasting. (The Pictorial Key to the Tarot)
The Golden Dawn astrological correspondence is Saturn in Pisces. Saturn is a limiting force. Piscean energy is compassion, fantasy, hidden influences, fears, anxieties and the urge to merge.
The Shem Angels associated with the 8 of Cups are angels no. 31 and 32 Lekhabel (daytime ruler) and Veshiriah (nighttime ruler). Lekhabel rules the first five days (quinance) of the first decan of Pisces and Veshiriah rules the second quinance of the same decan. They rule the hours of 10-10.20 AM and 10.20-10.40 AM respectively. The corresponding Psalms are Psalms 31 and 32.
One of Lekhabel’s titles is ‘Instructor.’ Lekhabel rules the acquisition of knowledge and illuminates our career path. He provides job opportunities/advantages. He governs vegetation, agriculture, maths, astrology, astronomy and geometry.
Veshiriah has ‘The Upright’ as one of his titles. He rules nobility and all legal professionals. He softens the heart of the unjust accuser and protects against unjust accusations. He influences oratory skills and helps with obtaining clemency from those in power.
Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous;
sing, all you who are upright in heart! (Psalm 32:11)
In the Frideborg Tarot, the 8 of Cups shows a red exit sign, with a light behind it. We are in the dark. We know it’s time to move on but we may not know where to yet. The important thing is to get ready to leave and to trust our inner guidance. The path will be revealed in due course, as we trust in the Light that makes us wish to move to higher ground.
For today’s Tarot Soul Coaching focus, on this New Moon in Sagittarius, we look up and decide what next year will be like. Then we start moving in that direction, in the direction of our bliss…Begin to weave and the Divine will provide the thread. ~ Old Proverb Click To Tweet
