2 of Swords – Decisions

2 of Swords Decisions

Our daily Tarot Soul Coaching draw is the Two of Swords from the Inner Child Tarot by Isha Lerner. The astrological correspondence is Moon in Libra. All 2’s in the Minors relate to II The High Priestess in the Major Arcana and duality, polarity, choices and receptivity.

In the Inner Child Tarot, there is a duel going on and the crossed swords represent a conflict within. The light of the sun in the background is the reminder of our power to transcend any duality or conflict within. Sometimes, returning to a state of wholeness can be a balancing act. We need to be patient with ourselves in the meantime.

Waite for It

A.E. Waite focuses more on the business side of things in his notes for the 3 of Wands in the Pictorial Key to the Tarot:

A hoodwinked female figure balances two swords upon her shoulders. Divinatory Meanings: Conformity and the equipoise which it suggests, courage, friendship, concord in a state of arms; another reading gives tenderness, affection, intimacy. The suggestion of harmony and other favourable readings must be considered in a qualified manner, as Swords generally are not symbolical of beneficent forces in human affairs. Reversed: Imposture, falsehood, duplicity, disloyalty.

Why does Waite goes on about all the supposed positive meanings of the 2 of Swords, only to say ‘Swords generally are not symbolical of beneficent forces in human affairs’? Swords, of course, are connected with the intellect, problem-resolution and communication. Human nature prefers complexity over simplicity. This is one of the many ways we make our lives more difficult than they ought to be.

The reason why the 2 of Swords could render a more positive meaning than usual is because Libra, the corresponding Zodiac sign, seeks harmony in all human affairs and is a master of diplomacy. This is probably also one of the reasons why Crowley chose the title ‘Peace’ for this card in the Thoth Tarot.

Frideborg Figures

2 of Swords Decisions Frideborg Tarot

In the Frideborg Tarot, I chose a picture of a bunch of keys in that one messy drawer we all have for the 2 of Swords. Keys are symbolic of solutions which is what the mind is constantly in search of. If we feel stressed about a decision we need to make, it is more likely that we pick up the wrong key.

Keys are also symbolic of the Tarot cards themselves, aka the 78 Keys of the Tarot. We can always consult the Tarot for any important decisions we need to make!

I think that there is something beautiful about mortality. It makes our decisions mean more. —Brandon Boyd Click To Tweet
