A Pure Joy

To be human means to face ‘trials of many kinds,’ and it is generally accepted that we have a right to winge under pressure. However that is not what followers of the Way are encouraged to do. We, who have received freely, are asked ‘not to grumble and complain.’ James takes it one step further (one step too far?) when he tells us to rejoice when are facing trials. What, what?!

Today, the grumbling and complaining is expected to reach new highs. The 45th president of the United States of America is being inaugurated and a whole lot of people are very unhappy about this. Surely, this is a good time to grumble and complain? Nope.

Think about it. What is the grumbling going to achieve that taking positive action on behalf of the poor and oppressed couldn’t achieve better?

The quote that inspired the Tarot collage and my thoughts today was the verse of the day on the random Bible verse generator I have as widget on www.angelorum.co. The 7 of Wands instantly sprang to mind. Personally, I don’t think we could have received better guidance by intellectually trying to figure out what ancient wisdom to contemplate in order to get us through today.

What trials lie ahead only God knows. But be sure of this, they will be legion. Perhaps today, the day of the inauguration, is a good day to lay aside all grumbling and complaining and BE the change we want to see in the world. Facebook wars about who is right won’t make any difference whatsoever to those in need and the numbers of those in need are now set to start growing.

And here’s another good quote for today’s theme as well as for the 7 of Wands:

“You will have to make up for the smallness of your size by your courage and selfless devotion to duty, for it is not life that matters, but the courage, fortitude and determination you bring to it.”
― Muhammad Ali Jinnah

When someone goes low, go higher. The heat is on – What will you do?
